Another Amazing Summer for our Short Course Pupils

Over the past 8 weeks, we hosted our Summer Short Courses for international students. The students had a fully packed schedule, helping them to consolidate their knowledge of English, explore life at a British boarding school and discover London and other cities of cultural interest. Over the course of the programme the students engaged in a wide range of both academic and social activities.

During English classes, students were able to practice and improve their English, using creativity and collaboration. Focus was placed on project work, pair and group work, with an emphasis on improving all four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. We saw one class making and developing their very own stories and films, one writing Haiku poems, and another focusing on British Life and Culture.

For those on the Intensive Academic programme, Maths and Science lessons explored topics from the national curriculum and brought them to life through practical experiments and hands on activities, whilst also learning the vocabulary needed to be successful. A firm favourite included discovering and researching the life cycle of plants, looking after the gardens at school, as well as analysing plant samples using microscopes.

All students participated in a Creative Arts programme, helping them to further develop their speaking and listening skills and build their confidence. Students were given the opportunity to express their creativity through music, dance, drama and art. Activities ranged from hosting a fashion show to designing tote bags, to learning a range of choreographed routines.

For those on the English Plus programme, there was plenty of time for sport, including volleyball, basketball and rugby, where students demonstrated their resilience and team building skills, while making memories to last a lifetime.

Our students enjoyed a range of evening activities and two full-day excursions per week. Some highlights include a seaside trip to Brighton, roasting marshmallows over the fire, a day trip to Cambridge and exploring the sights of London, which even included a trip on the London Eye! The Harry Potter Studio tour remains a firm favourite for all!

“We hope that our students enjoyed Summer School 2025 as much as we did. It was a real pleasure to get to know them and to watch them develop both their language skills and as people during their time with us. We hope they carry their Summer School memories with them as they start their next academic year, and we look forward to welcoming them back to Mill Hill at some point in the future.”
